Protection of Minors at Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University hosts a large number of minors who participate in a number of different activities including academic and athletic camps, special programs offered various academic or administrative units, operated both on and off-campus. The protection of these youth is of the utmost importance to the University.
As such, the Appalachian State developed Policy 111.1, Minors on Campus, to promote the safety and wellbeing of minors trusted to the university’s care. Policy 111.1 outlines what is required of all university faculty, staff, students, vendors, and visitors of Appalachian who work with minors in university-sponsored programs or who participate in third party programs and activities that use Appalachian property. Minors on Campus policy also informs individuals of their reporting obligations in instances of suspected child abuse or neglect of minors (Policy 111.2, Reporting Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect).
The Minors on Campus policy applies to all programs and activities in which the university is knowingly supervising minor participants or knowingly allowing third-party to use university property for the purpose of operating a program or activity primarily serving or including minors.
Conference and Event Services is charged with monitoring the university’s compliance with Policy 111.1. For questions or concerns, contact email@example.com.
