Appalachian offers three hours of graduate/undergraduate credit to each participant who registers and pays for the institute by May 29. New enrollees must submit the online Graduate Non-Degree application including all the required documentation by June 15. Further application instructions will be emailed. Any institute registrations received after the May 29 deadline will be considered for non-credit only.

The non-credit option is appropriate for license renewal if a University-issued letter stating the number of hours participated in is accepted by your school system. (If uncertain, please check with your school system.)
For more than eighty years, Appalachian State University has been a center of study for music students throughout the world. The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian offers a combined program of academic studies and professional musical training of unparalleled quality within a university framework. Individual attention, detailed musical and technical development, and the encouragement of each student's artistic potential in performance serve as the foundation of the program in vocal and instrumental studies.
Meals are available for purchase on campus at the Roess Dining Hall. There are a number of excellent restaurant options within walking distance.

Housing is available in one of Appalachian's residence halls. Two bedrooms are connected by a bathroom to make a suite. Each bedroom has 2 twin beds. On the registration pages you have an option of one per suite (1 person with private bathroom) or two per Suite (1 person per bedroom/2 per suite/2 per bathroom). Or you may choose three or four per Suite (2 persons per bedroom/4 per suite/4 per bathroom).
Your roommate or suite-mate must be a registered participant of this program. If you do not have a roommate, you will automatically be assigned one of the same gender. If you wish to have a suite to yourself, please advise us. Linens are provided and consist of: 2 towels, 2 washcloths, 2 flat sheets, 1 pillowcase, 1 pillow, and 1 light blanket. Residents will check-in on Sunday, July 12. Linens are provided at check-in.
The residence hall has wireless internet but at times is difficult to access. To ensure uninterrupted internet service, you may wish to bring an Ethernet cord to use in the residence hall.

Check-in will be held the afternoon of Sunday, July 12 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Check-out times will be July 17, from 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m.
Classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13 and conclude at noon on Friday, July 17. A complete schedule will be distributed at the beginning of Monday's class.
All materials used in the institute will be provided.
You will be most comfortable in casual summer clothing and comfortable shoes that allow freedom of movement.
Full payment (institute fee of $T380) must accompany your registration. There is a $25.00 service charge for returned checks. You may cancel your institute registration on or before July 1 for a full refund minus a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be issued after July 1.
Join us for a cook-out on Tuesday evening for all participants and their guests. Dress is casual. A Pig Pickin' with mountain music and square dancing ($20 per person) is scheduled for Wednesday evening. An evening jam session at the Jones House on King St with local musicians is an option for Thursday.
