The 2012 STARTALK NC Student Summer Institute is a two-week, residential immersion in Russian language, business, and culture, offered June 19-July 3 at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The goal of this camp is to bring students from across the state together in one place and create an immersion environment where they can bond socially, learn more Russian, and put their language skills to use.  The program will be offered to NC students in grades 9-12 who have been enrolled in online Russian instruction offered solely via distance learning during the school year.  This year our program will also be open to North Carolina college or university undergraduates who are currently studying the Russian language.

This course in Russian language and business is designed to improve the participant's mastery of the spoken Russian language.  During this program participants will have the opportunity to practice Russian with native speakers, learn about business communication and culture in Russian society, and discover the opportunities that a knowledge of Russian business and culture can bring to their future endeavers. The in-class and out-of-class activities will center around the needs and opportunities prevalent today in Russian businesses and American exports to Russia. Students will finish this camp enthused about the professional job opportunities that exist for them in Russia, as well as opportunities in American companies creating business relationships with Russia.

Food, housing, textbooks and office supplies are covered by 2012 STARTALK NC Student Summer Institute and are free of charge.  Participants will be provided with $200.00 financial support for travel expenses after the camp.

All participants are awarded with a language certificate at the end of the program.
